Alan Dennis Lorenger was born January 3, 1943, in Detroit, MI to Chester Woodrow Lorenger and Eunice Birnie Lorenger (Hudson). Alan served two years in the United States Navy from 1964 to 1966 on board the USS Sablefish SS303. He was a Diesel Engine Operator reaching the rank of EN3 SS E4.

On February 6th 1967 he joined the Detroit Fire Department, where he made many dear friends. He played softball on the DFD team. He was a fund trustee of the Detroit Fireman's Fund. He retired in June of 1992 at the rank of Lieutenant. After retirement he moved to Florida and bought his beloved boat the "Fire Escape". Captain Al chartered scuba and fishing excursions for 6 years. He then moved to Fort Pierce, FL where he made many good friends.

Alan is survived by children Cris (Patrice), Kurt and Amy (Carmen) Maki; and grandchildren Jacob, Jordan, Connor, Meredith, Paul and Christopher; beloved niece, Luana Kneebone; nephew Kenny Loranger.

Alan was a strong, hardworking and kind man. He was a man of integrity. He was a straight to the point kind of guy. If he loved you, you knew it. He was a great story teller and he had many of them! We will tell his stories to keep his memory alive. He never passed on fun, and always had a joke to tell.
